Patriots agree to new deal with veteran safety
The New England Patriots officially announced they had signed veteran safety Jaylinn Hawkins to a contract extension on Thursday. According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, it's a one-year, $2.25 million deal.
Hawkins signed with the Patriots last offseason after spending the 2023 season with the Los Angeles Chargers. He recorded 48 tackles, one pass deflection and a fumble recovery on the year. His best game of the season came against the Miami Dolphins last October when he racked up eight tackles in a game.
The Patriots are keeping their defensive secondary intact with the exception of longtime veteran cornerback Jonathan Jones leaving for the Washington Commanders. In his place, they added standout corner Carlton Davis in free agency.

Hawkins being back in the fold gives the Patriots much-needed depth and experience at the safety position behind Kyle Dugger and Jabrill Peppers.
His veteran presence will be welcome in a unit hoping to bring back the brand of toughness associated with past Patriots' defenses.
