Otega Oweh hits game-winner to push Kentucky past Oklahoma in men's SEC tournament

Otega Oweh scored 25 points in the first 59 minutes of Kentucky's second round SEC tournament game against Oklahoma. But as it so often goes, Nos. 26 and 27 turned out to be the ones that mattered the most.

With Kentucky's hopes of playing No. 3 Alabama on Friday dimming following a Jeremiah Fears layup to make it 84-83 Oklahoma with 5.6 seconds left, Oweh took the ball screaming down the court, took the baseline the Sooners gave him, and made an exceptionally difficult go-ahead shot with 0.5 seconds on the clock to give Kentucky an 85-84 lead.

A missed half-court shot from Oklahoma later, and Kentucky found itself having stunned the surging Sooners.

Oklahoma had done everything right in the last 30 seconds of the game. Two Kentucky turnovers off Oklahoma's full-court press begat the Sooners' lead, but Oklahoma picked Oweh up at half court on the final possession. Oweh's momentum took him past the Oklahoma defense, and ultimately set him up for the game-winner.

It was undoubtedly a horrendous case of deja vu for Sooners fans, who saw Oweh hit a euro-stepping game-winner against Oklahoma just two weeks ago in an 83-82 Kentucky win.

Oweh, who spent the past two seasons with Oklahoma before transferring to Kentucky and joining Mark Pope, averaged 16.2 points in 28.1 minutes during the regular season.

Kentucky will need to shake off the emotions as it prepares to play Alabama, the third seed in the SEC tournament. Alabama earned a double bye with its 13-5 conference record, and is playing for a potential berth on the first seed line with a strong tournament showing.
