Bears extend RG Jonah Jackson through 2027
When the Chicago Bears traded for Jonah Jackson a week before free agency opened, it signaled a belief that he could help solve their woes on the offensive line, at least through the 2025 season. It turns out he is in their plans for a few more seasons after that.
A day after he was introduced, it was reported by NFL insider Mike Garafolo that Jackson received a one-year extension as part of the trade, keeping him in Chicago through the 2027 season. Jackson signed a three-year deal worth $51 million with the Los Angeles Rams last offseason and played just four games as the team's center due to injury and poor play. He was traded to the Bears for a 2025 sixth-round draft pick with two years left on his deal. Garafolo reports Jackson will still earn the $17.5 million he was owed this season and will earn $7 million guaranteed in 2026.
As part of his trade to the #Bears, G Jonah Jackson received a one-year contract extension through 2027 and added guarantees in ’26 ($7 million fully gtd, $5.25m more for injury).

Jackson was selected by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft and played under Bears head coach Ben Johnson for two seasons when he was offensive coordinator. Johnson was a big reason why the Bears opted to acquire Jackson, and it's apparent he believes that the 28-year-old lineman can still play at a high level. "The guy is a Pro Bowl caliber guard, so that's what we're going to get out of him," Johnson said when Jackson was introduced on Tuesday.
In addition to Jackson, the Bears also acquired All-Pro guard Joe Thuney from the Kansas City Chiefs for a 2026 fourth-round pick and signed Atlanta Falcons center Drew Dalman to a three-year deal. All three are tasked with improving an offensive line that surrendered a league-high 68 sacks and had constant turnover due to injuries and poor performance in 2024.
