Aggies fans and media react to Texas A&M's 94-89 2 OT loss to Texas in the SEC Tournament
No. 14 Texas A&M (21-10, 11-7 SEC) couldn't shake the desperate Texas Longhorns (19-14, 6-12 SEC) in the second round of the SEC Tournament, losing to the program's long-standing rival 94-89 in double overtime in one of the more physical games of the year.
Behind questionable timeout and a poor performance at the free throw line, (27-40) the Aggies couldn't get out of their own way against a team that absolutely needed a win to have a shot at making the NCAA Tournament. At the same time, Texas A&M is projected as a 3-seed, meaning Thursday's matchup was very much one-sided in terms of need.
Still, losing to their most hated rival only gives the other side hope, and knowing how humorous the Selection Committee thinks they are, don't be shocked if both teams meet in the first-round matchup of the 3-seed and 14-seed.
Overall, star guard Wade Taylor IV, who is now one of 28 SEC players in the conference's history to score 2,000 career points, continued to dazzle in key moments, scoring a game-high 29 points and hitting 17-18 from the stripe in a performance that should never result in a loss.
However, the worst sequence of the year occurred when coach Buzz Williams called a time out before Taylor would have drained a critical 3-pointer with just over a minute left in the first overtime, which would have increased the Aggies lead to seven points.
Yes, this game meant everything to Texas, but heading into Selection Sunday, Texas A&M needs to work on the finer details, including free throws and preventing offensive lapses. Here are the best reactions after Texas A&M's double overtime loss to the Texas Longhorns in the second round of the SEC Tournament.
Texas likely punched it's NCAA Tournament ticket, but...
Just a reminder what Texas A&M did in 2022.
— T3 Bracketology™️🏀 (@T3Bracketology) March 13, 2025
Anyone that is saying Texas is a lock is just wrong. You can’t do your work too late. Agree to disagree that’s fine but we have historical data to show the committee prefers the resume is built before.
Texas may be the last team in,…
The play that that swung the game in the opposite direction
Texas A&M falls to Texas, 94-89, in a double-overtime thriller in the SEC Tournament. The Aggies will have a lot of regrets from that one, especially the timeout that wiped away Taylor's 3 ... which would have given them a 7-point lead with 1:24 left in regulation.

Dumb basketball that needs to be avoided next week
A&M played a lot of dumb basketball today. When you do it that much, it usually gets you beat. I guess better to play poorly this week than next week. 🤷🏽♂️
— MarcAg (@MarcAg_) March 13, 2025
The rest certainly isn't going to hurt, but would have liked to see them play better. Have to be better next week.
CJ Wilcher needs more shot attempts
I’m generally not one to critique game plans, but A&M only getting one shot for CJ Witcher (their best three-point shooter) is pretty inexplicable.

This team is truly something
How many lives does Texas have? Well, it has another.

Hopefully not haunting, but highly disappointing

And FTs
Haunting
Credit to them too, for sure. They match our energy and physicality.
But we choked at the end of that first overtime. https://t.co/rVTciMCkiJ
Truly wasted, but not extremely important in the grand scheme of things
13 missed free throws

What a wasted opportunity
See y’all Sunday night
What bubble team did Texas burst?
Texas fighting.

Longhorns SOMEHOW find a way past Texas A&M and take a big step towards dancing.
We'll see if it's enough... a lot will come down to how many bid thieves we get.
That makes sense. It felt like an eternity

Longest game of the season for the Aggies, but their shortest stay at the SEC tournament since 2021.
The Horns played like their season depended on it.
We'll see if A&M is a 3-seed on Sunday.
No room for error is an understatement
Great basketball game. Truly one for the ages…brutal being on the short end of this one.
— Gabe Bock (@GabeBock) March 13, 2025
Hate losing to those guys.
We won’t forget that timeout anytime soon. That one will linger. Let ‘em play and we’re up 7 there. That was a critical coaching mistake.
Rest up for next week…
For most of the A&M fan base, this rings true
that’s probably some of the worst coached play i’ve seen from us in a long time
— Jaxson Callaway (AT) (@AggiesToday) March 13, 2025
don’t really care for that game but losing to them will always suck
Maybe one more for the Longhorns to feel safe?
What a win for Texas. However, I still think they need one more tomorrow against Tennessee to get in. @SECUnfiltered

Free throws. That's it.
I swear free throws have been the reason we’ve lost most the games we have
