Trump suggests White House owes him apology for ‘sham trial’
Former President Trump said Friday evening he thinks the “inner halls” of the White House should apologize for the New York hush money case Trump faces, and that the case should be dropped.
“There is virtually universal agreement of the fact that the Alvin Bragg Witch Hunt against me, a SHAM TRIAL instigated and prosecuted directly from the inner hall so the White House and DOJ, should be immediately dropped, with apologies to me and all of the others who have had to live with this Election Interfering Hoax against Crooked Joe Biden’s Political Opponent,” Trump said on his Truth Social site Friday. “Not nice!!!”
Trump is concluding another week of the trial in New York, where he’s making history as the first sitting or former president to undergo a criminal trial.
He’s pleaded not guilty to charges that he falsified business records to cover up a hush money payment made to porn actress Stormy Daniels to stay quiet about their alleged affair ahead of the 2016 election.
Trump is under a gag order for the case, meaning his communication about the “sham trial” has been limited.
After attacking the judge’s family and others, the gag order restricts what Trump can say about the court proceedings and the people in it, including star witness Michael Cohen, who testified this week.
The former president has earned the support from GOP members of Congress this week, many of whom traveled from Washington to the courthouse in New York to slam the case. They claim the case is an example of election interference because it is a way to keep Trump off the campaign trial and out of President Biden’s sights.
