House Dems outraise House GOP with record April fundraising month
The House Democrats’ campaign arm outraised their Republican counterpart in April with a record $12.4 million brought in during the month.
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee’s (DCCC) total is the highest ever in the month of April and contributed to the $57.8 million raised so far this calendar year to date, the most for the committee in a presidential election year.
Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) raised just more than $10 million during April, the second-best such month in an election year. That gives the committee $59.8 million cash on hand, the second-highest amount it has had at the end of April in an election year.
But the DCCC is still ahead with cash in the bank, wielding a total of $75.9 million.
“With only six months to go before Election Day, House Democrats are ensuring we have the resources to take back the majority, make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker, put an end to the chaos, and get the government back to work for families,” Rep. Suzan DelBene (D-Wash.), the chair of the DCCC, said in a release.
The race for the House this year will be intensely contested with Democrats looking to win back control in the body after narrowly losing it in the 2022 midterms. House Republicans will try to grow their slim majority in November after a disappointing performance two years ago that saw the GOP underperform expectations.
House Democrats lead House Republicans in the total amount raised during this election cycle, $179 million to $134.7 million.
The GOP can only afford to lose one member of its conference in party-line votes with all members voting and still have a majority to pass legislation. The party is set to get a little more breathing room following a special election on Tuesday to fill the vacancy left by former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) in a strongly red district.
Rep. Richard Hudson (R-N.C.), the chair of the NRCC, expressed optimism in a release on its latest fundraising haul.
“House Republicans kept our nose to the grindstone — raising the cash needed to grow our majority while demanding a halt to Joe Biden and extreme House Democrats’ radical plans to drive America further into a ditch,” Hudson said.
